Pico Genesis Enlighten Laser

It can also improve the skin’s overall texture and tone by reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.

This cutting-edge technology combines the benefits of different wavelengths to deliver rapid pulses (picosecond) to the skin, breaking up pigmentation without damaging the top layers of the skin, whilst simultaneously stimulating collagen in the deeper layers of the skin.

Unlike traditional lasers that use thermal energy to create a controlled injury, the Enlighten system harnesses photo-acoustic effect to shatter pigment particles. This achieves incredible results with less downtime than traditional lasers, whilst the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is decreased significantly.

Recommended for all skin types, the Pico Genesis laser procedure is used to treat:

  • Age spots

  • Sun damage

  • Sun spots

  • Freckles

  • Melasma

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Pigmented lesions

What needs to be done pre-treatment

  • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1 to 2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilation etc).

  • History of cold sores, herpes or shingles may require an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.

What happens during a Pico Genesis treatment?

Topical numbing cream will be applied 30 minutes prior to laser. It feels like being flicked with an elastic band and you might feel some heat and hear sizzling noises. However, the treatment shouldn’t be painful. The treatment session typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes.

What are the possible side effects?

  • Bruising, redness and swelling are common and will resolve with time.

  • A heat rash or urticaria type of response is common and will resolve with time. An antihistamine can be taken to alleviate symptoms of urticaria and itchiness.

  • The treated pigmented area will turn darker within 24 to 48 hours.

  • This area will exfoliate off the face in approximately 1 week, and 2-3 weeks from the body.

What is the post treatment care?

  • Avoid sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen.

  • Do not pick treated areas.

  • Please use Stratacel twice daily until the lesions have fully exfoliated off.

  • Avoid heat: hot tub, saunas, hot showers, spas for 1 to 2 days.

  • Avoid skin irritants (retinol, tretinoin, AHA/BHA, exfoliants, astringents, benzoyl peroxide etc) until the pigmented lesions have fully sloughed off.

  • Notify clinic of any concerns such blistering, excessive redness, excessive swelling etc.
