medical termination (abortion) of pregnancy

If you’ve found yourself facing an unplanned pregnancy, you’re not alone, and you deserve care that is supportive, private, and non-judgemental. At Women’s Health Plus, we offer Early Medication Abortion (EMA) (also called a medical termination) for pregnancies up to 9 weeks gestation (counted from the first day of your last period). This is a non-surgical option that uses two medications to safely end a pregnancy.

We will guide you through each step, explain everything clearly, and ensure you know what to expect, both physically and emotionally. If you are unsure which option is right for you, we can talk you through your choices in a safe, supportive environment.

What is an Early Medication Abortion (EMA)?

An EMA is a process that uses two medications:

  • Mifepristone — stops the pregnancy hormone (progesterone), so the pregnancy can no longer continue.

  • Misoprostol — causes the uterus (womb) to contract and pass the pregnancy, similar to a miscarriage.

Most people complete the process at home, with clear instructions and follow-up from our clinic.

Am I Eligible?

EMA may be suitable if:

  • You are up to 9 weeks pregnant

  • The pregnancy is confirmed to be in the uterus (not ectopic)

  • It is medically safe for you (your doctor will assess this)

Before any medication is prescribed, you will need:

  • An ultrasound (to confirm gestation and location)

  • Blood tests, including pregnancy hormone levels (hCG)

If your pregnancy is very early (around 4–5 weeks), an ultrasound may not yet clearly show the pregnancy. In some cases, it may be safer to delay treatment until we can confirm the location and improve accuracy and success. We will guide you through this and organise appropriate follow-up.
